The Lester Prize for portraiture is one of Australia’s richest art prizes with a purse of $50,000. If Nora Heysen were still with us she would be having a go! As the first woman to win the Archibald Prize Nora was a portraitist of great skill yet she said, “There’s this awful thing called a likeness and portrait painters are always up against it with every commission. It has to look like the person and everyone has a different idea of how a person looks …”.
